Commonitorium, Chapter 6

1 Chapter 6. When you are seated in the synod with the aforesaid most holy patriarch and the representative of the East, together with the rest of the archbishops and metropolitans and all the priests of the Church of Constantinople, first let the letters be read which were sent to the emperor; and let the synod be asked whether it accepts them. And if they keep the testimonies which the letter also contains, when they have answered, say: Our lord, the most holy pope, taking thought for all the churches, and providing for your salvation and union and peace, has sent us his servants, that we may gather together those who were scattered, and make peace among those who were torn apart, and stretch out a hand by the mercy of the Church, and set upright those who were overthrown; that all with one mouth may glorify the Father together with the Son and the Holy Spirit. Is this good, or not? The holy synod said: Whatever things are for the peace and concord of the Church are both good and acceptable.
